Vietnamese EV giant VinFast is set to establish India as a global export hub, targeting markets in West Asia and Africa. The first phase of its USD 2 billion manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, is slated to begin operations by mid-2025, according to Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia.
The company aims to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India, including battery production and charging infrastructure. Group company V-Green will seek co-investors to expand the charging network.
At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, VinFast showcased its first Indian market models- premium all-electric SUVs VF 7 and 6- set to launch in the second half of 2025. The facility, strategically located near seaports and airports, will support exports and is expected to generate 3000-3500 local jobs.
“Localisation is key”, Chau emphasized, adding that VinFast plans to manufacture batteries in India and develop an omnichannel dealer network across metros and Tier-I cities.
Highlighting VinFast’s commitment to sustainable mobility, Deputy CEO Ashwin Ashok Patil described the SUVs as “game-changers” for India’s EV adoption. The company is also exploring benefits under the government’s EV policy, offering features like a 10-year warranty and battery leasing to appeal to premium buyers.
