In a significant stride toward promoting sustainable mobility, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia inaugurated 25 low-cost EV charging stations in Mayur Vihar Phase-1. The initiative is a part of the Delhi government’s comprehensive strategy to combat pollution, encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption, and solidify the city’s position as India’s EV capital.
Delhi now has over 2400 EV charging points with the lowest rates in the country, leading to 12% of all new vehicles registered in the city being electric. The city also has the world’s second-largest fleet of electric buses, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future.
The new charging stations, managed by Delhi Transco Limited, are being referred to as the power banks of a modern Delhi, and bring the total number of government-operated charging stations to 78. With this initiative, Delhi continues to pave the way for green mobility, becoming an epitome for other Indian cities fighting against pollution.
According to a report by Markets & Data, the global electric vehicle charging station market reached USD 10.73 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 119.5 billion USD by 2030, at a registered CAGR of 35.16%. Rising urbanization, growing environmental concerns, surging awareness amongst the population and favorable government initiatives are contributing to the growth of the global market.
