Based on the recent findings by ICMR - The National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR), nearly 3 out of 10 people in India, aged between 18-54 years have never got their blood pressure measured.
The southern parts of the India have highest average rates of 76% of those who have measured blood pressure at least once in their lifetime. Southern states such as Lakshadweep (91%), Kerela (89%), Tamil Nadu (83%), and Puducherry (83%) register the highest average rates. On the other hand, states such as Madhya Pradesh (62.4%), Chhattisgarh (62%), Rajasthan (58%), Odisha (56%), and Gujarat (58%) reported lower average rates. The data showcases the increasing alertness and awareness of people living in the Southern part of India towards regular blood pressure checkups.
High blood pressure is a precursor to many critical illnesses such as heart attack, stroke, and even kidney failure. Regular BP checkups offer numerous health benefits. Early detection allows prompt intervention and prevents complications.
